Dent repair with paint preparation

When keeping the existing coating isn't possible, correctly restoring the metal's geometry becomes the priority. We repair deep, sharp and complex dents and prepare the panel for the next stage of the paint process.

Service overview
with paint preparation

Not every dent should be repaired with PDR alone

Cracked paint, a deep scratch, a sharp crease, heavily stretched metal or a previous repair can rule out classic PDR as the only technology. In that situation the priority isn't preserving the coating at all costs, but correctly restoring the panel's shape and preparing it for the next stages of the repair.

We draw on experience with PDR techniques, panel repairs and classic bodywork. This lets us first straighten the surface as precisely as possible, and only then move on to preparing it for paint. Reducing the deformation while working on the metal itself lets us cut down on later filling and improves the quality of the final finish.

In some cases we use a hybrid repair. This means most of the deformation is corrected using PDR techniques, but because of damage to the coating or the nature of the metal, the panel still goes through further preparation and repainting.

Classification can change after dismantling. Behind trim panels or on the inner side of the panel, signs of a previous repair, layers of filler, broken bonds or additional deformations can come to light. That's why we match the technology to the panel's actual condition, not just the initial appearance of the damage.

Scope

What the service covers

  • Repairing deep and sharp dents with damaged paint
  • Straightening and restoring the panel's geometry before repainting
  • Hybrid repairs combining PDR techniques with further bodywork
  • Panel repairs carried out from the outside of the panel
  • Preparing the surface for further paint work
  • Coordinating repainting with a partner shop when the scope of the job requires it

Process

How we work together

  1. 01

    Damage classification

We check the condition of the paint, how far the metal is stretched, the position of the deformation, the panel material and signs of previous repairs.

  2. 02

    Restoring the geometry

We straighten the panel using the technique best suited to the damage. If needed, we combine work from the inside and outside.

  3. 03

    Surface preparation

Once the metal has been straightened, we prepare the repair site for the next operations in line with the chosen technology.

  4. 04

    Quality check

We check the panel line, body lines and the quality of the preparation before handing the panel over for painting or final vehicle pick-up.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about paint repair

When does a dent need repainting?
Most often when the coating is cracked or lifting, there are deep scratches, the metal is excessively stretched, or a previous repair rules out safe PDR.
What does a paint-repair dent job involve?
We first restore the metal as close as possible to its correct shape, and then prepare the surface for the next stage of the paint process.
What is a hybrid repair?
It's a combination of PDR techniques with further bodywork and painting. It's used when PDR helps straighten the deformation, but the existing coating can't be preserved.
Does previous repainting of the panel matter?
Yes. Under a newer coating there may be filler or other signs of repair that increase the risk of damage while shaping the metal.
Can a badly crushed edge be repaired?
Some of this kind of damage is repairable, but edges are among the most demanding areas. The scope depends on how far the panel is deformed and the condition of the coating.
Do you repair aluminium panels?
Yes, after an individual assessment. Aluminium needs a different technique and behaves differently from steel during straightening.
Why can the scope of work change after dismantling?
Only once access is gained can previous repairs, damage from the inside, reinforcements or additional deformations that weren't visible before come to light.
